1989 Cadillac Brougham

Cadillac began using the single name 'Brougham' on a special model in 1987, when the 'Fleetwood' name was dropped from the former Fleetwood Brougham. Cadillac had made the decision to use the shorter name when they introduced a new, smaller, front-wheel drive model in 1985 and dubbed it 'Fleetwood.' The optional 'dElegance' package (which had been introduced in the upscale Fleetwood trim line in the 1970s) was available on and appended to the names of both models. This resulted in a traditional body-on-frame/rear-wheel drive 'Cadillac Fleetwood Brougham d'Elegance' and a unibody/transverse engined 'Cadillac Fleetwood d'Elegance' fully two feet shorter and weighing 800 pounds less. For 1989, the Brougham was given a new vertical-slat grille, which was similar to the prior year's grille. The Cadillac script could now be found on the grille. The padded roof option could be purchased in a choice of five new colors bringing the total to 12 choices. Power was from an overhead valve V-8 … [Read more...] about 1989 Cadillac Brougham

Station WagonCadillac Division of General Motors did not make station wagons like most of its sister companies. Cadillac would produce special packages called the Coachbuilder/Livery Heavy Duty Package that would provide, Heavy Duty front and rear springs, Heavy Duty front and rear shocks, Heavy Duty steel wheels, Heavy Duty cooling, 3.23 rear axle ratio, 8.5-inch ring gear, High Output Generator (105 Amp) and Heavy Duty Transmission Cooling system. There was also a delete option available. The purpose for the delete option was to remove items that a coachbuilder would not need in building a hearse, such as the entire rear roof and back glass for a hearse. No rear seat in a hearse, so no need for rearing lamps or seatback assist straps. As the body was lengthened by the builder, they had to add longer side moldings, so the factory ones were deleted. Cars made into a limousine were ordered with the Coachbuilder/Livery package but did not need the Delete package. But a car being made … [Read more...] about 1987 Cadillac Fleetwood Brougham
